Re: Anchor questions

We only use the bimini top when it is either raining or hot as heck. Too hard to fish with it up and we learned all too well what it does in the wind. Early on we brought it back in one day after a rain and instead of taking it down I left it up with intentions of taking it down when being unloaded. BIG MISTAKE. We were still having some winds and getting it on the trailor was a pain. I have to pull the boat onto the trailor with a rope and it fought me tooth and nail. This old boat is great but it catches wind easy and the top makes it worse. I was wondering about the chain size, will look at 5/16. My anchor is more than 15lbs so maybe 4 feet would be enough. No more stern anchoring either. Even though these small lakes are not that much of a threat we do take it to one large lake and plan to go to 2-3 others and they would be a threat for waves. Thanks again!

2:1 technically would be 45 degree angle, and chain always lessens the vertical pull. I don't want 2:1, just have to sometimes. More chain is better.

Aaah. Now I understand. The chain keeps the pull on the anchor more horizontal.

Re: Anchor questions

Another option if you have tough lake bottoms is to run an ipilot trolling motor. Those things have an anchor mode that will generally hold you in the same spot. They'll wear down your deep cycles and will struggle in the wind and waves, but might be a solution in the tricky spots to anchor. Of course, those trolling motors will run you $1k or so.
