anchor set up

I have a 23 foot Monterey 2300sx, that is a 23 foot cuddy model. Ide like an easier way to drop and pull my anchor. Climbing over the windshield or around it isnt to safe especially if its a bit sloppy out. I was thinking of some type of anchor roller up front with pulley set up to the side near the driver seat. Anyone have anything like this in use or any ideas. Pics would appreciated. Thanks, John

I always wanted to get a 12v winch for anchoring but decided it wasn't worth the trouble for me.

You can install an electric windlass with helm controls but don't get sticker shock for your size boat you can expect to spend $600-$1000 to get it depending on if you install or have someone else do it.

I generally just drop the anchor in the side or back of the boat then after setting it up I either steer the boat to the bow is align with the bow or let the wind position the boat. Of course, my boat is small enough that I can reach my bow cleats and when Im feeling really lazy I just use my boat hook to move the rope in place and remove it from the bow cleat... In your case you might want to look into bow chocks. You can then drop anchor from the side of back of the boat and use a boat hook to guide the rope into the chock then if you could run your rope to a cleat in the transom...

Yeah, but the worst thing about a windlass is that once you have it, you'll never own another boat without one. It's literally "push-button anchoring".

With my old cuddy I used to pre-rig a short line from the bow cleat to the cockpit. I used it for docking as well as anchoring. When anchoring, I'd tie it securely to the anchor rode then drop it over the side and set it under power. I did have to go up on deck to retrieve it, though.

You are absolutely correct I will never own another boat without a windlass!
