Re: Anchor type ???

Hello skippersminnow; I am new to this board but not to boating. In weeds or grass it is very difficult to get a danforth style anchor to take hold. the Danforth cannot be beat for mud or sand bottoms. I carry one of each on my boats as well as a length of chain equal to the length of my boat. I carry the rode and chain in a plastic bucket with a drain hole cut in the bottom. When anchoring let out a scope of 7:1 when ever possible. If you cannot let out that much rode and high winds are expectd---find another place to anchor.

Hi SkippersMinnow,

I have a Bruce anchor copy myself and it works fine.

I do not have any experience with weed beds, but my experience is that it works very well on all sea beds.

Í suggest that you go for a Bruce copy with a chain attached.

Good luck

Johan ;)

Re: Anchor type ???

All right... I went to a West Marine store to check out the anchors. The guy at the store recommended a Danforth type anchor, and has a package deal with the anchor, plastic coated chain, 150' of rope for $80.00. Is this decent or would I be better off buying all this stuff piece by piece??

Thanks

Buy the damm thing!!!Most of the people at West know what they are doing.....Keep in mind that 150' is good for about 30' to 20' of water depth!

Re: Anchor type ???

Pursuit2150, I told the guy I was going to check the area they say is for anchor storage under the front seat. If I can't fit it there, there is additional storage thats larger, under the two side seats. The guy at West Marine did explain to me why I need to use the chain, and how to figure how much rope to put out etc. He also said since my use would be primarily tossing it out so the kids can swim, it should be fine.

Thanks

You guys are terrible! Ex-wives in the same sentence as anchors? Shame on you. Good thing I'm not an ex-wife.
I always thought MaryAnn was prettier. Yes, I'm female. Too much make-up on Ginger and I am brunette. Hey, where did Ginger get that make-up on a deserted island. Probably the million dollar question, heh?
I came with a question about anchors and walked away with so much more, but do have the information I came for. Thanks to all of you. I enjoyed the way there. Bonus for me: STAY AWAY FROM ANCHORS! :D I'LL PASS IT ON.
Bassy
