I don't have an anchor yet.
When I do I will get a chain and the fluke type as it will be best with the mud/sand we have here.

Re: Anchor

The best anchor I ever used was a "wishbone" it had a metal frame shaped like the top of a bell. On the bottom was a wedge shaped fluke that could pivot from side to side depending on which side the anchor landed on when put overboard. With chain on it it would lay down and spread any under water weeds out of the way then the fluke would catch in the bottom. Worked super in heavy weed areas.

Re: Anchor

There are anchor types other than "mushroom" and "fluke". I wasn't able to complete the survey. :(

This works for me.

Anyone taking a boat out on the water needs an anchor and enough rode to properly anchor the boat. Chain is an important part of the rode. Even if you don't plan to anchor, what happens if your engine quits? You just drift around?

Re: Anchor

I've got a Danforth anchor with 5 feet of chain then rope the rest of the way.Makes it nice and easy to dig in.I put a shock absorber inline made out of an old piece of thick rubber tube to stop the jerk action on the line so it doesn't break free quite so easily.
Also have a folding grapnel for anchoring to the shore as it's easier to secure by hand.

Re: Anchor

I have a small boat and usually only go on lakes with it. I use a 15# mushroom and it works pretty good. I like it because it easier to manage than a danforth.

Quietcat, nice shot of Lake Mead. :D
