Anchored seat and took it out... The first ride that left me with 2 questions

The engine hesitates around 2k or so if you ease up on the gas and don't throttle right on up over 2500 or so (these rpm are approx I wasn't watching close enough to remember exactly) it did like an old 1100 Yamaha waveraider I have if u ease on the throttle it will try to cut and die half way through but if you go from 1200 or so quickly on up its fine. The guy I bought it from "claimed" he had it rebuilt.... Said it wouldn't stay running before he did

I would trying spraying some carb cleaner around the base of the carb while running at idle and see if your idle changes, Sounds kinda like you possibly could be sucking air. Does it idle rough?

You could also try adjusting the mixture screw to see if it cleans up the hesitation. If he rebuilt the carb, it could be a gasket leaking, float level wrong or just not set right . Just a couple things to look at

that's the exact same prop my '07 Bayliner 175 - 3.0 had on it- It hit 44 mph@4900 rpm at 4400' elevation during a break-in run, and while it is a lot less weight than a Chap 180, it would plane out within 3 seconds at 3/4 throttle. The thing would outrun most every boat on the lake to 30mph! Trimmed full down or up in good cruise position didn't make that much difference... So simply based on my experience, that engine should definitely be running better!

And I'm not sure, but shouldn't that engine be TB injected, NOT carbed?

Distributor cap looked pretty good with some very minor surface corrosion .. The rotor had a little too..... The shop manual (#26 thanks #82 rude!) Only shows carbed models so I think carb is what it came with...

It doesn't like going strait from on the throttle to idle.. It will die for to bring it to 1500 or so et it sit for a sec then go on down

Our SkipperLiner has a pair of carbed 4-bangers. The starboard engine was doing that, stalling if I ran it down to idle quickly. I pulled the carb and it was pretty full of crud. A half hour with a couple of cans of carb cleaner and a sewing needle and she's run great ever since...
