Planning to go to sandy hook, new jersey from jones beach.

Can you anchor 100 ft. from the beach area and then take a kayak to get to the beach?

It would depend on the day

I would think most of the time the waves would be breaking 100' from shore unless you got one of those rare dead calm days

What depths do the charts in that area show off the beach ?

Re: Anchoring at Sandy Hook Beach?

I'm at work and the charts are home. I have invited my friends for a picnic at sandy hook on july 4th and I prefer to take the boat there from the western part of nassau. saves me more time and avoid trailering issues.

100 ft. from the shore may be a stretch. i was on the beach area last year and there were lots of boats moving up and down the shoreline. maybe there is a place for small boats to anchor.

any other alternative other than docking at the marina?

I read this somewhere ...

"The entire bay is shallow enough for anchoring and fuel is available behind the breakwater in Atlantic Highlands. Beware of fouling your hook on bottom junk"
