...on my 2000 Johnson O/B OceanPro 200hp??<br /><br />My motor's shift rod appears to terminate up under the lower carburators in front of the engine. I see my shift linkage as it connects towards the shift rod from the left side of the engine. On the right side of the engine, I see a silverish looking assembly that has two bolts threaded in it. This "assembly" appears to be the part that I need to remove in order to allow the shift rod to seperate from the linkage. Is this correct?<br /><br />-Will

willtill, Remove the shift arm pin leading where cable clevis attaches.You don't have to remove small bolts on shift rod block as you should have quickconnect style attachment.Manipulate shift arm to disengage.May have to shift in forward gear to gain better visual access.

Thanks for replying Ob,<br /><br /> I must admit, I am truly believing that I'm a "dummy" when it comes to trying to match the "part names" with the actual physical "part". I'm at work right now and am trying to "visualize" what you're saying;<br /><br />"Remove the shift arm pin leading where cable clevis attaches"<br /><br />What is the "cable clevis"? If I was viewing shifting rod assembly from the front of the engine under the carbs, where is the cable clevis located?<br /><br />At least I know now what the "silverish looking assemby" is now called, it's the "shift rod block"!<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />a puzzled Will in Maryland

willtill , Its on the end of the shift arm.Not under carbs ,so it will be easy to access.There is a cotter pin that retains it and washers on either side.Disconnection of it will allow you to move the shift arm side to side disengaging the hidden pins that marry it to the shift rod.<br /> Clevis is the forked end of the shift cable assy.

That left side of the shifting linkage is indeed easier to get to, rather than the bolts under the carburator area.<br /><br /> Is it necessary to pull the shift pin all of the way out, or does it just slide out a predetermined distance and then stop?<br /><br /> I'll go home and check this out, weather permitting tonight. The block that you will be disengaging from shift rod has two short concealed pins of about 3/16" in length.Once you move the shift rod side to side it will separate the block disengaging these pins.Then you simply swing it clear of the shift rod to enable lowering of unit.

If you remove the lower engine covers, very easy to see shift rod disconnect. The shift rod disconnect screw should have a 3/8 hex head and a common screw driver slot. The screw is located on port side of engine under the carbuators, unscrew pin and remove. Most manuals do not have scale photo of this screw. When you locate the small block (bellcrank) that the shift rod connects to, the screw/pin will come out toward the port side of engine.
