My 185 Sunsport Baja is up for the works , complete down to the bare hull. As I have mentioned before , the boat hops like there is no tomorrow and after hours of messing with this and fussin with that , a lot of rot was discovered. So as I rebuild I am gonna try to lighten the butt and build in as many "options" as I can. Things like cup holders that they never heard of in the early 80's. If I can get a ski locker in the floor that will happen too.
I have a lot of "big" ideas on how to save weight, of a few ounces here and there. Like for one getting Stainless steel screws that are not 3 inches long to hold together two parts that total a half inch thick. Ok I know takes a lot of that to make a pound. I think I can lighten the rear of the boat about 5 pounds just by making a wireing harness that fits the boat , I know there's 50 ft of extra wite back there. The power trim unit has hoses that look to be at least three feet to long too. Hope I can sneak that pump forward a bit too. I dont have it apart yet and I am amazed buy how it was built They carpeted it before the top deck was installed the carpet runs clear up into the front bulkhead < cant feel where it stops let alone see where it stops  Well it must have made it easy for someone.

This weekend I am gonna dump the boat in my pond and take some pics and make waterlines on the hull , then run it up to the Scale an have it weighed. I already have the tounge weight at 180 pounds with a quarter of a tank of gas. Pretty sure the transom will need redone too , be interesting to see how thats put together. It looks as though there is a huge area for flotation in the rear, If it is how I think it is I will be using the 2 liter pop bottle method to keep the foam usage to a tolerable level. Will post a few pixs soon

Keep us posted as you do the rebuild.

There's some radical ideas floating around about adding strength while cutting weight.

But, since the weather is so pleasant this time of year, rather than ruin my good mood; I'd rather wait a few weeks before the firestorm starts and the traditionalists & other assorted villagers gather with torches and pitchforks, surround the castle, and call for me to be burned at the stake as heritic.

Hmmmm...did anyone else notice that not only is the battery sitting right beside what appears to be the fuel tank (questionable design) but that said battery also appears to be leaking AND to not have any hold down apparatus? I can imagine all sorts of problems with batteries and fuel mixing in a spectacular fashion...

Just my $0.02 worth,
Joe

Yep its the fuel tank, the floatation area squeezes the battery, fuel tank and, trim pump all in a 30 x30 cube. Battery not strapped in , only for floating the boat in the pond saterday, the screws are pulled out too from floor rot so a strap would do little. And the fluid seen on the top is from squeezing the sides to put it in the holder as the lift handle cannot be used. Will have some better pixs saterday so you can see how all that crap is crammed in the back , the flotation cubes really take there toll. You have to acces the bilge pump though a small hole in the rear splash well.

When removing the battery if the positive hits the tank you will not to worry about repairing the boat. :)

Not all that strong maybe just shaky havin the battery that close to the tank, If I can find room forward I am gonna move the battery or maybe a tank under the floor
