Got the carb today Faztbullet!!!! Thank you soooooo much!!!! What year/model did it come off of? I can't seem to find any information on that part number. What is the extent of the little mods you speak of? What, exactly, would I need to do to it, other than change the linkage for use as my lower carb? Thanks again......... ALAN

**** EDIT: I found one noticable difference in the carb you sent and the carb I'm replacing. ****

Do I need to find a drill bit EXACTLY the same diameter as this fourth jet and pierce another hole to match that of the damaged carb. I realize it's probably not absolutely necessary, but I would like for the two good carbs to match. As far as I can tell, this is the only difference in the two carbs unless anyone else knows of any. The casting number on the replacement carb is 323301 and the casting number on the damaged carb is 324859. Thanks in advance gentlemen................... ALAN

This is a photo of the jetting behind the core plugs of the damaged carb........

It will be fine as is. Just leave the idle jets in the carb that I sent ya. This carb off 78 140. Install your old high speeds in new carb if jets not the same numbers. To make it work on bottom just remove to choke parts as bottom has same casting but not drilled and tapped.

Ok....... I did a linkage swap on the two carbs and removed the choke assembly from the one sent. Everything is coming together nicely! However, there were no slow speed jets installed in the carb that I recieved. They had been removed. Will it be ok to use the jets from the damaged carb? Or were they different from my '79 model? If the slow speed jetting were identical, I forsee me taking a ride this weekend!! Thanks again!!!................. ALAN

P.S....... My contribution to the "JohnnyRude Mechanics Brew Fund" is already waiting for you! Have one on me!!! ........ ;-)

!979 had high #322810, Low 318073.

1978 Had High 320661, Lower carb port side low #318832, Lower carb starboard side low #320015, both sides upper carb low #320015.

Those numbers are from the service manuals for the respective years.

OK......I think I understand.........The high speed jets on the '78 (both carbs) were all the same, 320661. The bottom carb on the '78, however, used different jettings for the low speed orifice plugs. On the port side, it used 318832. And on the starboard side, it used 320015. Correct? If so, and you have access to the specifications information via the service manual, what are the actual sizes of the low speed orifice plug holes, port and starboard. The size of the '79 low speed orifice plug holes are 0.025" (0.64mm). Please tell me something good..... :) ..... Or better yet, that I'll be fine with the '79 orifice plugs...... :)

Try your low speeds in it. The only problem I for see is it being a little rich. I would have answerd sooner but fishing tonite. I will look and see if I have any of the listed jets, and if I do will send em your way. Go get it wet!!! :D

Both carbs have been installed, with jet's that I already had, and I've buttoned everything back up. Nothing has been changed other than the 1978 carb replacement body. Sounds good on the muffs!!! Rebuilt the fuel pump, rebuilt the carbs, rebuilt the trim cylinders, and I'm a happy man just itching to take a ride tomorrow morning!!!....... Wish me luck guy's!!!.......... ALAN

Well....... Top end seems absolutely fine, however, she's a little sluggish at first on take off and even tries to stumble a bit. Just momentarily though. It's more like a stutter, and go!!! Then she takes off like a bat out of you know what. I'm assuming it's because of the jetting and it running a little rich at idle. WOT rpm's at 5600-5800 depending on livewell level. Not once did it offer to stall out on me either while at WOT. So I know I got the initial problem fixed!!! Wahoo.... no more leaking trim cylinder oil slicks either!!!! Sounds like there might be a little air trapped in the system though. I'll re-check the fluid levels and try again. Now for the correct carb jetting to see if this cures my stumble. Thanks a bunch for all the help and advice gentlemen!!!!! Much much much appreciated!!!!! .............. ALAN
