Are you saying that there is only 1/4" distance from the pump and the manifold and no room to get the hose in? Attach the hose to the pump and then attach the pump/hose to the manfold.

I would but the fuel pump outlet is pointed down and the intake is pointed horizontal, it's almost like and L, but I can't get a hose to bend like that. Other people have said how easy it is...

How much space between the pump and outlet? Can you use a long piece of hose and make a loop in the hose and make it work?

Unless you run the hose into the carbs off the fuel pump and not into the intake...but that doesn't sound right. If the hose is coming off the intake it hits the outlet on the fuel pump. There is like 1/4" and they are like and L to one another.

On the block there is an inlet of some sort. After looking the previous VRO system, the fuel hose went into the VRO, then into the brass fitting stick out of the block.

Ok. When doing the conversion you have to plug the port on the intake that used to go to the vro. The new pump has 2 hose barbs on it, they are for fuel lines. The one on the front of the pump is the inlet, and the one pointed down is the outlet, it goes to the carbs via the fuel manifold. The new pump bolts to the intake with a gasket between, after you remove the plug from the center of the mounting spot. Hope this helps.

I agree with guy74. That thing you are calling a inlet on the block is the pulse connection for the old VRO.

Okay, so I obviously run the fuel into the inlet and then the hose that splits into two goes to the outlet, and just plug the fitting on the block?

Maybe this is a dumb question but I just replaced the fuel filter, will the same one work or will the mixed fuel ruin it?

Yep, sounds like you have the right idea. I turned the fuel manifold upside down and ran a longer hose to it when I did the conversion on my 89 XP. It made it much easier to hook up. The instructions posted around can be confusing, since they try to cover many different engines. Hope this helped.

Yes it helped greatly. I know my way around a car motor but I am still a noob when it comes to outboards. Thanks for taking the time to assist me.

What size of bolt do I need for mounting the pump on the block, I tried a 10-32 and it doesn't fit

Hey, we both got it right so we'll have to split the million. LOL.
