Old transducer bracket was broken and removed by previous owner. Ok. To test, I hung the ducer in the water, and seemed to work (depth was way off, but I attributed that to angle). New bracket installed, ducer on, now I get no depth readings. Always says its 0 (zero) feet, and nothing else on screen at any speed, or even just sitting at the dock with motor off. My guess is the angle of the transducer (angled to far back?) Any other suggestions? It's a Humminbird 200DX.

And a side note; I saw the threads about the rooster tails from the HB transducers, and mine is awful as well, and directs water right at my motor. I can't find an off-the-shelf cover or guard (one thread said Cabela's had, but can't find it). Anyone have a link to where I can buy one?

Thanks!:)

If you got depth readings hanging off of the boat and now none with it mounted I would say that it isnt mounted with the bottom of the transducer parallel to the bottom. It sounds like you might not be deep enough in the water to get depth readings or you have air bubbles passing over it. Take a couple of pictures of how its mounted and post them here.

Re: ....and yet another FF/transducer Q

I had the transducer mounted at parallel, or very close. I just got back from monkey-ing with it. I was sitting in 6' of water (measured with a boat hook), and the depth was reading..... 589'. Ummm... So while it was docked in the water, I adjusted the transducer to see if I could get a 6' reading. The closest I came was 10-12' (occassionally it would say 7-8'), and that was with the transducer in a near vertical (perpendicular to bottom) position. I tightened it up, and took it out to the channel. At idle speed, the depth was showing 1-3'. In the channel, it blanked. When I cut the engine, I was able to get around 24' for a bit, but the channel was only about 6-10' (per dockmaster). It then went back to indicating depths from 350 - 590' (Showed some big fish at 230-308' LOL). I monkeyed with the transducer for about an hour, but could not get readings even close to reported actual. I'm beginning to think it's either a bad transducer, a bad head unit, or both.

Any ideas???

Go to HB's website, go to customer service section and inform them of the problem with the rooster tail. They have a fix, will add you to the list and ship out the guard when available. According to the thread, one person has already received the guard. (And, it's not cost to you)

Take your unit loose from the mount and try pluging in the cables directly. Sounds like a loose connection to me. Had that happen with my 797.
