I think emergency care for animals such as dogs, cats horses etc is a good thing and an ambulance even though it would be expensive is also good. I dont think they should be given the same traffic considerations as those used for humans. No flashing lights and sirens and all that.

I disagree with that.....
The lights & sirens make other vehicles aware so they can either stop or make way without causing another accident.....
You see some of the traffic on I-5 & I would not want to be waiting for emergency services to arrive or depart if I were bleeding out.....
I'd have to think getting a victim to the hospital ASAP has to have some bearing on their chance of survival....
Pet ambulances are fine as long as it is not on the public's dime, IMHO.....;)

I would agree that they are needed to get to the patient, but patients generally don't benefit from rapid transport to the hosp. That's my opinion only, I'm sure many disagree. Sorry to get off topic.

I am against ambulances for animals.

As it stands, people barely make an effort to get out of the way of ambulances. Once they start to think it might be somebody's cat, they'll never pull over.

Let's see... I can be late to work and get fired and my children will become homeless... or somebody's chinchilla can get to the doc... I wonder what decision I'll make....

pulling to the side to let an ambulance go by wont take a minute. My issue is the speed of the vehicle when use for an animal and the danger that might posse to others. I take that for a human being (well, for some) but not for an animal, not even my daughter cat.

new to iboat, didn't think I would see a post like this. I work on an Ambulance in a big city. if you have a major traumatic injury you need those light/sirens to get you to a Trauma surgeon at an ER. If you don't get there quick you die end of story.

ps: if you hear siren and see light please move over to the right and in a safe manor. Now i'm just venting.

"the more people I meet, the more I love my dogs!" great bumper sticker.

Iboats is great

No wonder cats carry machine guns. :D

I don't think its a good idea to give animals an ambulance with lights (or siren). An animal rescue vehicle properly marked, and no lights will do just fine. It can carry a trained staff with the needed life support gear appropriate for an animal in distress. Anything more is putting humans in jeopardy.

Many people dont have a clue as to what they should do when they see an ambulance. They dont know "if you hear or see an emergency vehicle coming in your direction it is against the law to enter the intersection until it has passed through first. If you have a green light that doesnt matter. Only exception is if your car is blocking the emergency vehicle and then you may pull out of they way even if it does put you in the intersection(past the stop lines) DRIVERS ED 101

Re: Animal ambulances....how do you feel about them?

Would I move out of the way for one?
Of course.

Do I value animal lives over human lives?
Well first of all, that's not possible since humans are animals, so if you value human life above all else, you're still just valuing 1 species of animal over other species of animals. Secondly, considering that people who don't move out of the way of ambulances should be shot IMO, then I would have to say yeah to this particular circumstance.

A better question would be what type of animals would you value over what kind of humans?

If I had a choice of wether to save a dog or save an innocent child (isn't it sad that these days you have to specify whether the child is innocent or a punk?), I would save the innocent child. I *MIGHT* even save a punk kid, so long as he wasn't too much of a punk. Otherwise, hell no, let him die, I'll save the innocent dog. (Note: I picked a child for the example because most people think that a child's life is more worthy of being saved than an adults life, although I would contend that once again, it depends on the two being compared.)

This begs the question, would you save an endangered white tiger over an innocent child? I would have to say that I would. There are plenty of children in this world, not so many white tigers.

Now this shows that the scale is black on one end, and white on the other, and whenever the two ends of the scale are different, there is always some gray area where the two meet. So where is your gray area?
