a sad day today.
while I personally did not care for some of the things she did in TX, ya have to admit she was a solid one.
godspeed, fair winds and following seas.

She created a new class of political women.

Couldn't help but like her even if she was a Democrat.

Re: Ann Richards

A very strong, very productive woman who will be missed by many. I believe that she was truly an 'old fashioned' Democrat and had the respect of both parties. Although she appeared abbrasive to many, she accomplished a great deal. She told it like it was and didn't take no for an answer.

And she said?????

In her Texas drawl she claimed that Bush only had a new comers drawl and that he was not a born and bred Texan.
This was in 1980

I heard a tape on the radio a few days ago. She Said, (paraphrasing a bit probably)" Bush says about edjucation,"leave no child behind" and I say "leave no childs but behind" or something like that. Very catchy.

I like her more than Hillary. I really dont know what she did for Texas. But we always get get to hear the opinions of the Bush election losers when the media cant come up with anything original. If it werent for her Bush Bashing I wouldnt know who she was. Sorry Texas, I love you, no Chit...

Re: Ann Richards

You are correct, odd, you do not know.

Ann Richards was one of a dying bred of honest politicos and was not known to hedge on doing what she felt was right.

She brought out the best in many and broke down many barriers. Hard to beat honest and forthright. A great lady indeed.

(No txW, your correct. But only because you repeated what I said)

Ann Richards was one of a dying bred of honest politicos and was not known to hedge on doing what she felt was right.

She brought out the best in many ( Besides Bush, whom? ) and broke down many barriers( please name two ). Hard to beat honest and forthright. A great lady indeed.

Perhaps see was. But I know her solely as someone who bad mouths Bush so she can get her mug in front of the camera again. Shame she will be remembered that way.

There ya go! definately a liberal. If you cant beat em with policy or sound ideas,,,talk trash. Do you have to be a born resident to be pres of Texas? Comments like that may impress at a pep rally crowd but public servants should stick to the issues.

Re: Ann Richards

Odd, I am ashamed to say but W was a bad governor before he was a worse president.

Had you know Ms. Ann you would have respected her even with your ideology. I know some who did not agree with her but never met anyone who had a chance to be in her company not to hold her in the highest esteem.

She did not lie and did not pull punches. Sometimes she was right of center and sometimes on the left but seldom in the middle. She was a true Democrat, the old kind like many of us, able to think and make her own decisions.

Yep I would have bet, had you had the opportunity you would have liked her also.

Odd Job,do not jump to the gun that quick.George senior and Ann had many sparring matches. They also had great respect for each other.Actually, when Bush was vice president, they often did work together for the good of Texas.

Odd, she was much the humorist, in support of women and there abilities she was said something like:

Everyone remembers Fred Astaire but Ginger did every step he did only backwards with high heels on.

She was fun.

Re: Ann Richards

oddjob is way out in left field.
ann was sparring with daddy bush not baby bush most the time.

however she was very polite, incredibly honest and very articulate.
none of that can be said of baby bush.
like I said I did not agree with all her policies, yes I did live in TX for 9 years then, but I had to respect the fact that she was no nonsense and moved TX further along. until baby bush drove it back.
