While servicing my motor before I put my boat in the water for the year I had taken the anode off to clean it, It felt to me like it was plastic and acted like plastic when put against some sandpaper. Well anyway after some crusing around I tilted the motor up and it was gone. Will this effect my boat in any way not to have an anode on it? By the way the boat is left on a freshwater lake for the season and when docked I tilt the motor up. 1983 75 HP evinrude E75TRLCTE

Re: Anode fell off

The motors were displayed with plastic anodes. The anodes are your protection against galvanic corrosion and are needed.

You should check the parts manual for your model, find the specific anode and replace it. You can check anodes with an ohm meter to see if they are working, when they turn white they should be replaced or filed down.

The folks at BoatZincs.com carry most OMC/BRP anodes at excellent prices. The parts diagrams can be found at the BRP Parts Catalog site:

Re: Anode fell off

Just ordered one. Should I use the same bolt that held in the plastic anode?

Re: Anode fell off

The anode needs to have good continuity with the motor, so the bolt and bolt hole should be cleaned with a wire brush and bore brush if needed. Stainless steel is best for the anode bolt.

I also need some help with the anode?
I have a 73-18hp Evinrude I just bought and there's no anode anywhere on the motor, what size do I need for this motor and how many total.?
I use the boat in salt water. Thanks.
