I think your "compromise solution" lacks the merit of premixing or using the oil injection. 100::1 gas oil mix will likely damage the motor, if the oil injection fails. If the oil injection works, you will increase oil consumption to 36::1 or so, which contributes to smoke and deposits in the motor. I would recommend you check the oil alarms and run the injection or disable/remove the oil injection and run premix.
In my boat, I keep a gallon of oil in case of injection failure, and I also make sure the oil alarms work.....If I get an alarm, I can mix in the oil, and keep going.
