Ok, so got it running and turned the lights on, had it idling for 5 mins or so.

Red probe in the Rec/reg DC output:



touch earth with the black probe on the multimeter:



Red and black on batteries at idle:



Red and black on batteries at 2000rpm(change is too small to see it on the dash voltmeter, but it was consistent) :



I re installed the old rec/reg, and got less than 12v at the batteries without any change upon lifting the revs.
So the new one is doing something, just not sure how much.
And why do I get a reading at the reg/rec on my multimeter without earthing the other probe? but when I do I get that jiberish!!

am I missing a simple law of physics somehow? more likely have a faulty multi

That is one weird reg/rec unit. Personally, since this is a non-returnable unit I say just leave it on for now and see if your battery will eventually drain or stay charged with your uses. If the battery drains quicker than used to be then it is time to get rid of it. But if not, then maybe the unit is working. There's one thing I noticed different with your reg/rec unit is the part # stamped on it. Yours says "12-10" while the one I have is "00-G", I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Took the boat out for a couple hrs on the weekend.

This whole "universal" excersise has been a big waste of money and time.

No matter which yellow I conected the tach wire too, the tacho would not read correct.

On one combination, the volt meter did get just over 12volts at around 3- 3500 rpm. The other way around I had no charge and no tach.

Would've been better off burning my $80.

Im going to have replace it with a geunine one now

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. It would seem to me that you must have received a defective unit. Others have done the "universal" exercise without any problems.

Hey guys, been having all sorts accessing this site from here in Australia. Some ithing about Iboats blocking asia pacific IP address or the like?

Anyway, laid up after some foot surgery and I had too much time to think.
I got the craps up , and just ordered a brand new Reg and Stator from our local CDI distributor. Cost me $400 big ones, but I now have a a Force that charges the batteries and with a working tacho.

Im a bit ashamed to tell anybody that I have now spent $1000 on a Force motor, seems so backwards...

Now for the rev out issue. Ignition outboards and the local mech reckon a bad stator or reg can be the source of a low revving motor, but I cant for the life of me work out why. Hoping to test it out next weekend
