I just bought a 1998 Four Winns with a 3.0 Volvo Penta GS in it.
After 6 years of boating, I had to be towed to the docks for the
first time last weekend. PS belt broke, leaving me dead in the
water. I've sourced new belts, and reviewed the install procedure
here...removing the two horizontal bolts & spacer. My questions:
-How tight should the raw water pump be? It's tough to turn by hand.
Unlike the alternator.
-Pulleys are all very rusty! All are accessible except for the crank
pulley. I plan on using a drill & wire brush to clean, but the crank
pulley is buried in there. Has anyone done this job with the crank
pulley still on the engine? Any suggestions on the best method to
get at it?
Suggestions/experiences are most appreciated!
