Another big twin

It's a disease I think, bought another one today 58 35 hp. Just started to do the usual coil replacement etc and I noticed a small crack in the steel flywheel hub at the edge of the keyway. No doubt caused by a loose flywheel. Anyway, anyone had luck welding in this area? Paul? Ca Transplant?

I think you are gonna need a replacement flywheel, Dave.<br /><br />If you could perfectly reproduce the original taper it might be worth a try. I have never succeeded at it, only ruined a couple of cranks.

Uh huh. There's lots of flywheels out there, and I don't think I would ever properly trust one that had a crack.<br />And you're right, there's something infectious about these outboards.

Already decided to replace, just thought I would toss out the question. I even saw a few on e-bay. Thanks guys.

Talk about your disease. I had one with farm tractors. Finally stopped at 7, but the temptation is still there.<br /><br />Mark

I never found farm tractors floated very well, Ive heard of guys "floating" them from place to place but everytime I tried they sank. I'm gonna stick with old boats and motors.

I don't do outboards as much as I used to, only have 10. About 3 years ago I bought an old bicycle.<br /> Today I have about 100 nothing to special but I'm having fun.
