A friend keeps his boat at his dock on a river. I volunteered to drive her to the ramp (1 mile) and the owner was bringing the trailer to meet me there and pull her out. When I got to the ramp there was a truck and jet ski trailer setting in the loading area. The trailer partially in the water. I blew the horn a few times....motored around...nobody. The next ramp is about 5 miles away. When the owner of the boat I was on showed up...he was peeved. He unhooked the trailer from truck and away it went into the drink. Submerged. Decided to meet him at the other ramp. Along the way I passed the jet skier. Damn I feel bad for him. I guess thats what happens when an inconsiderate or ametuer boater meets a hard head.

The sad thing is, some totally innocent boater will probably lose a prop or lower unit on the submerged trailer stuck in the washed out area at the end of the ramp. Or if Karma is doing her job, it will be the hot head who turned it loose.

I'm not absolving the jerk who left it parked there, but come on, was that really the best solution?

I never would have done it, but, I bet the jetskier wont do it again. Could have been worse. He could have let the air out of the tires.....

Like I said, I would "never" do it myself. However, I do understand the guys frustration and see some humor in what he did. I'm guessing if it was a regular boat trailer he may not have done it, but who knows. And no, it's not ever going to happen to me because I would "never" leave my rig unattended at a launch... Tha's all I'm going to say about the matter.....

Wow. Did he key the tow vehicle while he was at it? Maybe a brick through the window and release the brake?

Just wondering if the tow vehicle was unlocked or had the keys left in it? If so I would have moved it half a mile up the road. :D

It is illegal and immoral to punch one of jerry's kids in the head, but lessons must be taught!

two wrongs don't make a right....

i do suspect that the jetskier will be more considerate at the boat ramp in the future though, when (assuming) he gets his trailer back...

Besides the obvious, the worst thing is he didn't leave a note.

This guy is going to have no idea WHY his trailer is in the drink. He's just going to assume someone was being a jerk to cause trouble. He'll do this again.

Re: Another Boat Ramp Blunder

+1 on locking the trailer to the ball. I have ALWAYS done this. Back in the day working for a friend of mine, his LARGE utility trailer was removed from the ball and towed away. He had a wheel lock on one of the axles. They dragged it until the tires on that axle blew, that's when the rubber bread crumb trail ended. I also lock the hitch when not attached so someone won't back in and drag it away. I suppose the wheel lock would work on a single axle.

I don't think it's right but I have to say I laughed when I read this. The PWC owners are real d*^#$ in my experience (although we would love to have a matched pair).

I used to do the sound for the river raft race in Homasassa. One year some idiot blocked my truck and trailer in. I got under his car, shifted to neutral and rolled him out of the way and into the street and left him there. He was most certainly as drunk as the other few thousand there and perhaps didn't realize he had been moved when he left. No harm, no foul. There was no intent to mess up his car, just to move it out of my way. The following year I had it in the contract that I parked next to the hotel restaurant that sponsored the event. That area was blocked from traffic due to loading/ unloading. I unloaded and left it right there, and after the event loaded up and drove away. Much easier.

Back on the topic of the inconsiderate PWC owner.....Moral of the story? Use your parking break, lock the ball, take the keys, lock the doors, and don't park like a jerk face or someone's gonna get pissed. I don't see why the boat owner should have more patience. I think 15 minutes wait time on a public ramp for an unattended vehicle is long enough. Certainly would be nice to be able to issue a citation rather than dump the guy's trailer in the drink. What ever happened to citizen's arrest?

Wow, that is sad. Something always goes really bad when two people like that live's cross.

I would be even more upset if I launched my boat alone their earlier and I wanted to recover my boat. I wouldn't have the convenient option of going 5 miles. Chances are I would be stuck out there for how every long it would take a tow truck to pull the trailer out or to find a friend who both I and him were comfortable to drive my truck or boat to the next launch.

Your friend showed that guy a lesson, but he most likely screwed a few other people. In any case your friend beat out that guy for the SHT award.

Boy, some harsh replies here. First off the OP didn't do it, he only relayed the story. Honestly, I'm impressed by his courage to admit it in an open forum. I wasn't there, but have to assume that that wasn't his buddies intention. I can see how someone can look at a small PWC trailer and think, 'That doesn't looke too heavy, I bet I can just move the a@!#holZ trailer so I can use the ramp too....... ARRGG, I didn't see that one coming.' Now what? Sit around and wait for Captain Inconsiderate to come back? How do you think that would have gone?

Guy 1 made a mistake. Guy 2 made a mistake trying to work around guy 1's mistake. Mistakes happen.
