Re: Another Boat Ramp Blunder

Boy, some harsh replies here. First off the OP didn't do it, he only relayed the story. Honestly, I'm impressed by his courage to admit it in an open forum. I wasn't there, but have to assume that that wasn't his buddies intention. I can see how someone can look at a small PWC trailer and think, 'That doesn't looke too heavy, I bet I can just move the a@!#holZ trailer so I can use the ramp too....... ARRGG, I didn't see that one coming.' Now what? Sit around and wait for Captain Inconsiderate to come back? How do you think that would have gone?

Guy 1 made a mistake. Guy 2 made a mistake trying to work around guy 1's mistake. Mistakes happen.

Haven't seen anything directed at the OP and don't see how you can figure it was a "mistake".

The trailer was in the water already...it was a jet ski trailer, so it was small, no way he would be pulling out between the water and the truck, which was also blocking the ramp
...what else could his intentions have been?...

But I must admit the concept of just leaving a truck and trailer blocking a ramp like that is just so incomprehensible I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been.

The ramp is pretty much by itself....with not much around. I took a ride by there and used my depthfinder to see if I could locate anything unusual on the bottom that I've never seen before. I know the area well and fish there alot. I found nothing. I also drug an anchor around the area and came up with nothing. Maybe a good sign that owner retrieved his trailer somehow. I hope both guys learned a lesson that day. This friend (term used loosely) will no longer have this captain run or maintain his craft. I think this is no way to treat an idiot. I see them all the time in my business, daily, hourly.. I think this is equivilent to running down a guy in his boat fishing the channel.... with a 65footer just cause he's in my way.

Good for you! I wouldn't trust someone who left their stuff in the way OR someone who is evil enough to get revenge like that. Maybe the Jetskier was making a test run and planned to go right back? Anyway that was cruel and unusual punishment in my book. Probably was against a few laws too. Vandalism and littering the lake with tires and trailer etc

Wow your friend was an idiot. I could think of quite a few reasons why it could have been parked like that. One of which was his battery died and he was now looking for a jump start.

i too have to admit, I let out a bit of a chuckle. But then reading on, you guys are right, it may have been there for a reason. I ran into this exact problem this past Spring at our private ramp. I was pissed, but then one of the people living in a houseboat near the ramp explained to me that the guy broke down and was trying to retrieve his boat with a paddle. I still dont understand why he left his rig there, but I was a lot more sympathetic afterward. So yes, there could certainly have been extenuating circumstances. If he did leave it there just because he was too lazy to park it, well then maybe he will think about having to swim for his trailer next time he decides to be lazy.

Do 2 wrongs make a right. Of course not, but who knows, maybe he just created a more considerate boater.

no offense but your friend is an azzhole, you should be ashamed of his actions and not telling them to the whole world on the internet  like others have said, you truly do not know 100% why the trailer was left in the water with the truck blocking the ramp and even if he was being inconsiderate your friends actions still may not get through to him. He probably got back to the trailer and figured the hitch must have somehow come loose, he may not have even known someone intentionally did it. someone so clueless about blocking a ramp for an extended period of time is probably going to be just as clueless about the trailer.

A note on the truck or some patients to confront this guy to his face would have been way more effective.

1...agree
2...ashamed?.. read again, I am more than ashamed.
3...the whole world?...this is a criminal act..I didn't give a name. I'm venting.
4...I don't care why the jet skiier left the ramp blocked.......does not give this guy permission to dump his trailer in the drink.
5....agree
