hey all, my name is mike and i just got my first boat a few days ago so i have a lot of learning to do. i'm sure y'all get tired of the same old questions all the time so i will use the search as much as i can (if i know what i'm looking for) that is and doing tons of reading. i can't tell you the make of the boat, but i can describe it a little to you. i do know it's a 1982 17' bowrider. it has a Volvo Penta I/O i think a 125hp. it runs and floats i think (it runs) at least that's what the friend that traded me for it said, so i'm that far ahead of the game!! that's about all i know right now. the title doesn't list a manufacturer, but it does have two placards on the sides with the name i think in the shape of anchors. i work offshore in the Gulf of Mexico so i can't go out there and look right now, but i will try to find out more when i get home. i guess the reason i'm posting my first thread in this section is because the boat needs some cosmetic work and plan to do the work myself. i would like to put it in the water at least once before the season is up just to get the feel of owning and operating a boat before i tear into it, if that makes any since. thanks for putting up with another noob! in advance....:)

Welcome aboard Mikey. You will learn a lot here about boats and the rebuilding and repairing process. If you can, post some pics and don't be afraid to ask. I wouldn't have done my boat without the expertise of these fine people here. Good luck.

The only reason I even attempted to buy and restore an older boat was because of the information and tips given in this forum. You will learn a lot here and "welcome to the wonderful world of boating"...

i can't seem to find out who made this boat. i think the orange at the bottom might be the original color of the boat? the title doesn't list a manufacturer either. this is driving me crazy. i'm stuck out here and trying to do some research but not having much luck. anyway, she seems to be a good boat. can't wait to get her wet!

Good looking boat. The orange paint is bottom paint. Not sure if it's original. Any boat that sits in the water will likely be painted a different colour than the rest of the boat. I guess they only make a few choices of colour for bottom paint. Usually black, red, blue, and a few more. There maybe a HIN number on the outide of the transom. Usually top right side. Not sure if this will help your quest.

Hey Mike, welcome to the forum and boat ownership. Nice looking boat you have there.

There should be a metal plate on the transom that would list the make, model, and year of the boat.

Here is a thread on redoing your interior. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=347724

i don't know if it was removed or what, but all i can see in the back is a long stamped number. HIN i suppose? i don't know, it's weird. it has placards on the rear sides of the dealership i think, and a Volvo Penta placard on the rear just above the out drive, but no name for the boat. is it possible the name was a sticker and removed / painted over? if so, can i find out from the HIN # ? who would have that info? maybe i shouldn't worry about it so much. like i said before, it seems to be a good boat. the glass is really thick in a lot of places, seems to be pretty solid from what i can see and has good running gear. i should just be happy with that right?

Any chance of seeing the pics of these. On the HIN number the last two numbers usually represent the year.

i can post some pics when i get home tomorrow. i don't know if i will be able to take her out this weekend or not. been raining a lot down here. i've been staring at the same picture of the boat on my computer all week! killing me! man i can't wait to get home.
