another bore question for Frank?

I've got another bore question, for you Frank, or any one else, three actually. Found out I'm going to have to go .020 over on my 50 H.P. but I can't find any .020 over pistons at a price I can afford at the moment. I've found a pretty good deal on some .030 over pistons but was wondering will going .030 over maybe cause some over heating problems? Awful lot of metal coming out at .030 over seems like, to me. 2nd question is these are Vertex pistons I've never heard of them, have you? If so are they any good? sometimes a deals not a deal if its some cheap Chinese junk or such. Also by going .030 over will I gain anything horsepower wise? Or will it just seem like more horsey's since I'm bringing everything back in tolerance? Thanks for your help.

The more you bore, the thinner the cylinder walls get. You are right, the cooling is a teeny bit compromised but folks do it all the time. I understand that 30K is as far as you can go before you have to have it sleeved.
The horsepower gained from boring no matter how much will be not be really noticeable. (maybe 2-3MPH). You can only squeeze so much blood from a stone.
I dont know too much on the longevity of the Vertex pistons but I can tell you the Wiseco's are much nicer and in my opinion, a superior design.

Whatever you decide, take your time and do it right or its just a waste of money!!

I found a block for my motor on ebay, bought new rings for my good piston along with a new one, got a gasket set, honed the glaze from the cylinders and went to town.

It runs so nice now. Im still in the break in but it starts up nice, it stays running, it dont stall, its got a nice response through the whole throttle range.
Plus, I think I got lucky and had to tweek the carbs and all that very little.
