Looking at 2006+ boats and a few have bottoms painted. I will be trailering any boat I purchase. So...

Should I avoid buying a late model boat if the bottom is painted?

Thanks.

If you like the boat, the painted bottom is not an issue. However, since you trailer, the bottom paint will continue to rub off, so there could be an appearance issue. You may need to touch it up occasionally.

agreed that it will rub off. i will try and get some pictures of mine and show your how its coming off. the whole bottom of the hull has no bottom paint and then alot of the hull it just flakes off. im in the process of removing it now. it looks way better

thanks. so i could just let it flake off and it wouldn't look so good or i could continue to repaint/maintain it or it can be removed completely? i assume removing it is a sandblasting (or similar) operation? i also assume after it's removed appearance would be affected too?

If you hire a good sandblaster, and if he uses the correct soft media, the hull should be a matte apprearance, as if you lightly sanded it. At this point you may leave it alone, or coat it with a one or two part polyurethane paint in the original hull color or some fancy color scheme.
