Thursday night I was driving in the rain in heavy traffic on a 4 lane inter city road. Speed limit was 35 but most people going much faster rain or no rain. I was in the slower right lane and as this car came up beside me I noticed it was drifting INTO MY LANE. I looked over as I tried to blow my horn I noticed a woman driving and on her stearing wheel was her cell phone and the(censored) was sending a text message....Lucky I saw her first because the only thing she was watching was her phone.I think Im going to go and get a set of loud truck air horns so the next time I can give them a loud blast to make them look up. Or maybe just get a powerful megaphone so they can hear me as I tell them what I think about their driving.........The way things work today a person can wreck you and hurt you very bad and it still take years to make them pay for the first bandaid....because every cent of your required medical bills fall directly on you. The wait for payment to cover your cost from the wreck can take over 3 years or more. What do you do other than just not drive?

Re: another cell phone story

I hate people that do this sort of thing, because they are the ones that get legislators all excited about passing cell phone bans. I talk on my cell in the car all the time. My phone has voice recognition, so I don't have to dial anything. I also have enough sense to pull over to the side of the road if a conversatiojn becomes complex and demands my full attention.

Stupid is as stupid does.

this bothers the heck out of me as well. I find flashing my lights gets their attention better then blowing the horn. the sad part is they usually look at you like you are the moron. My truck is a stick shift, so 99% of the time I just call people back once I get to my destination.

Re: another cell phone story

Way back before I retired, I once got a call from my wife while navigating heavy traffic on the way home from work. When arriving home, she wanted to know why I hadn't answered. I explained that I cannot answer a cell phone while I'm in heavy stop-and-go, driving a 4-speed, with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Sheesh!! And she wondered why I didn't answer the phone. I don't have a cup holder....:D

Re: another cell phone story

I don't find driving and talking on a cell phone to be any different than holding conversation with someone in the car. Just as when on the phone, I will sometimes stop talking to a passenger, if the driving situation warrants it. I also don't try to write things down on a pad, etc. while conversing with someone in the car.

The key to it all is simple - don't allow your attention to be divirted. Don't dial numbers while driving, don't text, don't peruse your email, etc. Most of all, don't be stooooopid!

There you have it. Reasonable people like Boat Bouy know when not to talk on the phone while driving. It is the oblivious morons who can't drive safely and do anything else at the same time. They are the ones who will get the laws changed. They will also be the same ones to **** & moan about the new laws that were precipitated by their incompetence.

Just think, there was once no such law against drinking while driving.. It all likely came about because some people just didn't know when to pull off to the side of the road in order to shotgun that beer. Now, not only can we not drink while driving, we have to pull over and GET OUT OF OUR CAR in order to shotgun a beer. man, what a drag.. ;)

yep..have a bluetooth enabled phone with an FM wireless transmitter that puts inbound calls through my trucks stereo...This is really cool..I am deaf in my right ear now so having 300 watts of kickin stereo helps!

I do however run with my laptop on the passenger seat and have been known to check emails, reply to emails in traffic..stopped traffic though

I dont think many street racing kids are ON a cell phone...just illegal drag racing that has been going on since the 50's...glamorized in "fast n Furious" movies and all other such adolescent money movies..Heck I used to run my 69 nova out by L.A. Harbor..but I did almost kill myself as well....

I think that reasonable people like yourself can drive and talk on cell phone....with that said, the biggest difference between a passenger talking with the driver and a cell phone companion talking to the driver is that when the driver moves into the next lane or is heading for a telephone pole the passenger is a little more aware and has a lot more at stake.
