Hi all,

I took my 16 ft. Starcraft with my 1975 55 HP out today. This is only the 4th time I've had her out (she sat up for several years). This is the first time I used 87 octane. I also got a hold of a can of seafoam. I put approx. 6 ounces in my 6 gallon gas tank. When I got out to the lake (Temp was 40, water temp 35) she fired right up and ran really good after I warmed the engine. Even seemed to idle better initially. When I shifted her into gear she sputtered some but went ahead. I cruised around for quite awhile and it just missed slightly every once in a while (a huge improvment over last time). After I fished for a few hours I decided to see what she could do! I picked up some good speed for a while as I drove around. Then she started missing more. And finally it died. I got her started a few more times and it ran great in idle but would miss after picking up speed and then eventually die. Finally I couldn't get it started. I pulled the plugs and both were heavily coated. I replaced them with some other plugs and tried again to start. No luck. Finally I figured it wasn't getting any gas and I pumped the bulb a few times. She started right up and got me back to the dock.

I apologize for this being so long but here are my questions: Will the decarb in the gas cause the plugs to foul? Will this clear up as the carbon in the engine gets less? Also I forgot to mention that this engine has never been Decarbed before.

Thanks for reading and for your responses.

Shane in MO.
