When servicing the lower unit the trim tab bolt sheared on me because the shop that last serviced my motor did not put any antiseize or grease on the bolts. The bolt had to be drilled out and I am waiting to get it to a machine shop to be plugged and retapped. First question is will it hurt the motor to run it on the lake without the trim tab plate?

Next I posted a vid on my restore thread of my motor idling. It was mentioned that it sounds as if it is only firing on one cylinder prob due to gummed carbs. Can anyone take a look and tell me what they think. Thanks

Re: Another E50BELCOB question

I've never run a motor of that hp without a trim tab.....some older motors of similar hp and larger never used to have them so running without one may not be so bad.....i will defer to others for a definative answer though.

Next time you have it running remove one spark plug lead at a time and see if it bogs down then picks up again when you replace it (use insulated pliers).....if it does each time both cylinders are pulling their weight.....if it stalls or there is no change you have a cylinder out, not automatically going to be the carbs at fault however.
