Another Float Adjustment ?

I recently purchased float part # 18-7249 as a float replacment for my carbs. These are made of plastic as opposed to cork "which were showing signs of wear".

The diagram show an adjustment of .690/.665

Is this in reference to 1 inch? So .690 inches? These floats are substantially smaller than the previous cork ones which were suppose to be set at 11/16" so I'm a little unsure.

Thanks as usual.

Probably the differance in material changes the newer floats bouyancy causing the differant float height so go with the new height

Thanks,

Could you let me know what the .690/.665 represents? Is it .690 inches or is it 1.03 inches or is it something else?

Cheers

OK, I stopped and did the math the original setting was 11/16 of an inch, the new setting is .690 to ,665 of an inch, 11/16 of an inch is .6875 which is the same thing that the original specs. were

Great,

Considering the new float is much smaller and sits differently I wasn't sure if they were using the same specifications however as you pointed out the buoyancy is probably different as well.

I guess I'll have to make a substantial adjustment. The new float sits substantially lower due to its smaller sized floats.

Thanks again...

Don't guess!!! Ask the supplier of the new float. If you have a float that has greater boyancy, and the setting is to the top of the float, of course the float would be smaller. At any rate don't guess. Setting it low could grenade your motor.

hope it helps

I don't have any info on your engine or what carb you are working on but if the measurement is the same and made at the same place on the float or levers then the differance in the meassurement is not in the float but in the fact it was not right to begin with

Re: Another Float Adjustment ?

My motors a 70HP 79 Mercury serial 5353658. It has a type c carburator "square" and the part # 18-7249 is suppose to be the replacement float for it.

I'm going to have a look at the original float made of cork "which is much bigger" to compare and make sure the original 11/16 settings was correctly done to begin with as that was a very good point.

If you have any additional advice please feel free.

Thx..
