Mth54,Sounds like you might have sucked up something in the water pump, your impeller might be shot! bill

Mth54,You have to drop the lower unit to get to the water pump intake screens, also pull the prop off . You might have something wrapped around the shaft! bill

MTH54, If I were you I would drop the lower unit then hook up a water/air hose on the water tube, you should get water circulation thru pee hole. might as well rebuild water pump while you have the lower unit off. bill

The hub has probably spun in the prop..Send it off for rehubbing. It is designed to do this , so as to protect the lower unit gear train in the event you run aground or hit an underwater obstruction.
Note: It doesn't allways work.Sometimes the gears get damaged. But if this were the case, you would be dead in the water.
And if you ran aground, it's safe to assume you need to pull the lower unit and replace the impeller. The intake, ports, and tstat (if so equipped),will also be plugged. But impellers are made out of neoprene or rubber, and do not take kindly to sand.

Re: Another Force Motor Problem !!

As far as losing thrust the prop may have simply been fouled with weeds causing cavitation.

Steelspike, I beleive the cavitation you explained was the thrust problem, I was in a heavily weeded area ,and further looking at the motor this afternoon, found what looks to be ground up weeds in out put holes,in this situation will I still have to pull lower end,if so i'm going to have to find a manual. Thanks any other info would truly be helpfull.

MTH54-Pink at night sailors delight,Pink in the morning sailors take warning!

Key question.. Did the motor rev up when it lost thrust?? If not your engine may have seizing from the overheat condition.. And that is not good. If the engine revved up when thrust was lost then that is consistent with a spun prop..

Back again, took boat and motor to the lake yesterday, backed it in and started it.Luckily the motor started, sounded good, put in gear and i have thurst.Stoped by the library picked up a clymers manual.I read up on cavitation and ventilation, very interesting.I'm studing up on the gear case,i sure the motor water intake, pump and ,peeholes are plugged.I'm going to order impeller and other rebuild parts needed and pull gear case. Thanks for all the help everyone, sure glad I joined this Forum, very helpfull. :)

MTH54-Pink at night sailors delight, Pink in the morning sailors take warning! :D
