Have 89 johnson 110.Boat had been stored 2 yrs when i got it.At first would barely run, tons of smoke(excpected that). So replaced all old gas,oil etc replaced primer selonoid(was leaking).Started it with muffs and it was a ton better, idle was a bit high but that dropped when i put it in the water yesterday. So yesterday it started good in the water, idle was good, but when i throttled it up i got no power passed 1\3 throttle and if itried to go to 1\2 or full right from idle it would die.would restart fine. After a few tries i hit the key choke to see if maybe it was not getting enough gas and you could hear and feel big difference.Boat ran good at 3\4 to full throttle and was fine. But if i shut it down same problem occured.Again would hit key choke briefly and off it would go.VERY frusrated...Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks John......

Almost certainly needs the carb to be cleaned.

See "Carb cleaning" and "Awakening a sleeping outboard" in the Engine FAQs and also "Carb needle adjustments"

Re: Another frustrated amatuer needs help!

A couple of yrs with old gas likely points to gummed jets in the carbs.
You can order the rebuild kits here on iBoats (just a couple of seals/gasket and new needle jet/seat) give it a good cleaning.
Cost me $100 to rebuild 6 carbs and its no big deal to do ,
get yourself the OEM service manual here too, it really helps.

the problem with not doing it right is if one carb gets clogged, the cylinder will run lean and a burnt piston is a lot more expense to fix.
I see that here on a regular basis.

The "Decarb" thread, located in the Frequently Asked Questions forum, will elaborate a good deal on this issue. You need to skip over there and take a look at it after those carbs are rebuilt. If your not having any luck in finding the kits here at iBoats, you might consider eBay as a source. You should have no problem locating them. Definitely see the above mentioned threads earlier in this thread. Lots of help can be found in them. Obtaining the manual was a very wise decision!!! I hope it was the OEM factory manual specific for your outboard? The cheaper manuals (Clymer and what not) often times cover too many different models to be of much help. Here's a link to some kits on eBay....... The kits you need to purchase are part number "OMC 398526".

If you want a complete kit with a new float, look here.........

Just for keeps sake if you need any other part numbers for your outboard keep this site in mind. It's a great tool !!!!

Click here............ http://www.brp.com/en-US/Related.Products/Parts.htm

Now....... Under the "Parts Heading" click on "Visit the site now".

Next...... Click on the green check mark in the box located in the top left hand corner and select "View Parts Catalogs"

Now....... Click on the "Go" button beside the box, again in the upper left hand corner of your screen, that says "Evinrude". (Johnson owners need to change this to Johnson from the drop down menu first)

Now...... Select the appropriate folders for your year, horsepower, and model number to view the parts lists and exploded diagrams

Good luck to you on the repairs!!!!!
