Use te very bottom as a marker, not the stepped hull. When on plane the stepped back will not be submerged. You normally need to keep the cavitation plate 1" or so above the bottom of the keel. But thats the beauty of a jack plate,you get to play with it a bit!

Just looked at your photos. Trim the motor out flat and measure from the ground to the cav plate, and ground to the keel. Add one inch or so to the ground to keel measurement, and that should be your height of cab plate to ground. You may have to do some test runs and fine tuning.

wish i had a jackplate, would be easier.

so i can probably move the motor up 2 more holes, but i will certainly measure to get 1" above the bottom of boat(keel).
