Another inconsiderate boater

I read alot of these type posts and just thought I would share one of my own.
So over the weekend my girl and I and three other friends were wrapping up a nice day of cruising around, heading back to the ramp.
We were flagged down by a jet boat that needed a tow( I wont get into why they needed a tow, that is for stupid people owning boats)
SO I hooked up to them and was slowl pulling them in. I runs an 18.5 ft bowrider. So as we are easing back to the ramp a larger deck boat comes screaming by us from the opposite direction creating a huge wake. Normally this would not be so bad but with a full load in my boat plus the added drag of the jet behind, I was sitting fairly low. Boat sent a wake so large the it completely crested over my bow and sent a torrent of water flowing all throughout my boat. The jet fared worse. The guys in that boat, against my advice, had tied the tow rope to a cleat instead of the bow eye and it was completley ripped off the front of their boat.

I may not be the most expierenced boater, I am however a considerate boater slow for fisherpeople, other boats ect. And I am sure enough going to slow down for one boat towing another. I love boating, and I love it even more when people share the water.

Yet another moron in a boat (YAMIAB). There's no possible excuse for another boat's wake swamping a nearby boat. And you were in a situation where you could not maneuver quickly.

Never tie off a towline. Do a loop or two around a cleat and have someone hold it so that it can be instantly released in an emergency. It is even better if you do that at both ends of the towline.

just another who don't know the rules. It is clear in the rules that you must give way and keep clear of a boat being towed by another. Makes me think boat license is not a bad thing. We have them here, but only required if you were born after 1984.

I hope this little story that happened to me last year at Clear Lake Ca, will make a few of your day. The ones who were almost cap sized and so on ! We where fishing the day that this happened and I know that the lakes are made to share with all that boat but why guys who like to fish AND THOSE WHO SKI cannot get along is beyond me. This day it seemed every time we would move beccause of skiers would invade us seem to be happeneing all day well there was one boat of I will say people for the sake of not wanting to be foul mouth. lol But they would come close enough to spray us the skier would. We tried to get Number off boat to no avail . Well that afternoon when we loading our boat we heard this loud noise coming in at full throttle it seem and I still belive it was close to it. But when we look up the boat had hit the gas to shut it off and did so and had no idea that the wake he caused was coomiong after him as it came up over the rear of his boat and sank it. and while it was going down these guys were yelling for help. Well I guess I was not the only one they were harrassing that day as about four others started to clap and just watch as boat sank . The we all ask if he needed some help? I know I shouldn't have felt so good but I felt justified after that day out there with the guy who sank his own boat . So sometimes what goes around coomes back really fast to bite you on the u know what true story :D

I think I would have gotten the towed boat to the dock and then taken off after the deck boat to get his registration numbers. Boaters like this are idiots who are not just rude - they often hurt people.

I was monitoring Channel 16 while fishing on Sunday and heard a transmission made by a Coast Guard helo, in regard to such a person. Although I couldn't hear the boater that was talking to the chopper, what I came to understand from the helo pilot's transmissions, is that the boater had someone on his boat with a broken arm. The accident apparently happened because someone in a no-wake zone passed through kicking up a large wake.

Re: Another inconsiderate boater

In college I got called to Jury Duty.
In the Law Suit the plaintif claimed that he was slowly motoring by the defendant when the defendant casted a fishing lure into his face and ripped out a chuck of skin the size of a kid's glove. The Plaintif was seeking to recover Pain and suffering plus surgery bills. The pics were awsome. The Guy's mouth ripped open to the upper and lower gumlines. After evidence from both sides. We the Jury determined that the plantif had been harrasing other boaters for most of the afternoon on his jet ski. Since on testimony from witnesses the plaintiff had clearly been performing illegal navigational acts and the plaintif could not prove the fisherman's intent. The fisherman won the law suit plus the plaintif paid the fisherman's legal fees.
You can determine the lesson in this story, but I always carry 30lb mono on a rod in the rod locker, even when brim fishing.

that's some weak jury work there, lou. illegal navigational acts means you can take violent action?

Yep. It's called self defense. If you don't have a gun, use another rod like weapon.

hope it helps

Illegal navigation acts are no reason for violent retaliations.

Letting soemone swamp there own boat, sure... but ripping somones face off. I don't think so. You should be ashamed.
