Another manual question

I need to know what manual I need. I have a 1981 Sea Ray 195.

There are bolt holes that have been patched, so I don't know if this is the original power train.

On the outdrive it says "Mercruiser 260" with power steering.

The valve cover on the engine says "Mercruiser 260" as well and then says, "Engine: 350" and "Ford motor company".

I'm 99% sure it's a Chevy 350 though (distributor is in the back, so it's not a Ford).

Anyway, anybody know what manuals I need so I can yank this badboy?

Re: Another manual question

If you can post the serial number for your engine and drive, someone will be able to direct you to the right manuals!

Re: Another manual question

You need manual #3 for your engine Merc PN 90-95693, and manual #4 for your outdrive, it's PN 90-86137.
77 was the last year Mercruiser used Fords.

Re: Another manual question

K, thanks, just to be sure, I went and looked at it today (it's stored at a friend's house) and got all the codes I could find off the thing. Here's what I found:

On a tag on the very back of the outdrive (the part closest to you if you are standing behind the boat) a tag stamped:
5924327 150R

Then a stamp right up near the hull with a SN stamped:
5916687

The valve covers on the engine are stamped with:
Model: MCM 260
Displacement 350 CID
Fuel Octane: Min. avg. 88.
Ignition Timing: 8 deg. BTDC
Spark Plugs: AC-MR-43T
Cylinder firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
(now I know it's a Chevy)
Engine Rotation: CCW
Max WOT RPM: 4200-4800
Engine Serial: 5925948

Re: Another manual question

So is the Seloc manual the one I want? That's the only manual I can find here on the site. Do I need a Mercruiser factory manual, or is the Seloc manual a good choice?

Re: Another manual question

Selocs and Clymers are too general and have a number of errors. Go with the Mercuiser manuals for your engine and outdrive.

Thanks. Anybody have a good source for the Mercruiser manuals? I heard that you can download them for free on Mercruiser's site, but I can't seem to find anything.

Nope, never could download them "Legally" there was a link for a while, but they caught on and shut it down.
Ebay, or new. You can order from Merc if you have a SN for engine and drive, or just order thru your local dealer.

Re: Another manual question

Thanks again guys, I just won a #3 manual for my engine on ebay. Still looking for Manual #4. If anybody knows of a good cheap source, let me know!
