Congratulations and welcome aboard. I normally would say go with the biggest engine you can but given the lake size you will be cruising on....guaranteed the 60 will be plenty.

Re: Another new owner/boat thread

Thanks!

The more I think about it, the more I realize that most people are launching or leaving out of a Marina and going somewhere. We will be pushing off the dock in our backyard and then we are "there." We will just be putting around the lake enjoying the days and nights, there isn't anywhere to "go" seeing as how the lake is about 1.5 miles at it's longest part. I think the 60hp will be fine, I have no plans to take the boat anywhere else.

I'll post pictures when we take delivery, the same place we bought the boat from is coming out this week to install a dock for us. I'm so excited!

Congrats. I was at that same boat show in Milford, NH last saturday. I was amazed at the interest in pontoons over the other types of boats.
I have a new Sweetwater 1880 on order. Bought at the Portland, ME show in March. I'm lakefront in ME and will be doing the exact same type of cruising you are planning. I got the 40hp Yamaha which will serve our purpose.
We also have a Boston Whaler 13' which is great when we want to pull the tube for the kids or go wake riding.

Re: Another new owner/boat thread

An example,

I'm a VERY experienced water skier. I currently use an HO Magnum 72" ski. I can ski behind my neighbors Bayliner with a 125hp motor. I have to hold on a long time to get planed. No way in hell can I ski behind my 18' toon with a 75hp Merc. Even tried 2 skis. Tried to shore jump. Tried behind other neighbors 22' with a 90 hp, no joy. You have a lot of boat to push and no "V" hull to split the water. Top speed isn't the trick, it is acceleration. I have skied behind a Tri-toon with a 150 Merc.

I guess if you are really light, young, have a phenomanel grip and a huge ski, or wake board you could get up, but skiing at 20mph isn't really that much fun. Go for that big motor, forget about gas milage and have fun!

We had the dock and boat dropped in today! It all worked out great and we had 9 people on the boat for an afternoon cruise. It's so awesome having a boat in the backyard! :D
