I read with amusement some of the launch stories, some pretty good ones!
Here's one that my sister & I saw at Lake Flower in Saranac Lake this year.
We had just loaded our boat and we pulled out of the way and parked. Then we went down to the water to soak our feet. This truck and boat come screaming in, the guy jumping out and very hurriedly getting everything ready for launch (or maybe I should say 'lift-off'
). He puts his wife/gf in the boat, unties it from the winch, and proceeds to back up a very FAST clip - his wife/gf is yelling at him,,,,,things like slow down, what are you doing, STOP. He does stop, just short of the water and the boat, totally untied, goes flying out into the lake !!! Clearly she had no means of operating the boat, she was panicked.
Now this would be funny enough by itself but it just so happened that some turkey was cutting ACROSS the mouth of the boatramp, fully expecting to make it past the launching boat. But since it was launched at 35MPH and shot into the lake, they collided.........
And a ranger there saved the day by grabbing a dragged line and pulling her back to the dock, and she was steaming.
So now the guy has parked his truck and has run down to the launch. HE is yelling at the guy who cut across the dock, SHE is giving him holy hell for launching the boat and her into the water at light speed, the OTHER GUY is yelling at the guy for launching at Mach 1, the RANGER is yelling at everyone to stay calm and relax.
I think that he wrote tickets to both of the boats and gave both guys a very large piece of his mind. SHE looked as PO'd as anyone I've seen all summer!
MY SISTER and I did our best to not laugh or gawk and I think that we're both glad that we go boating with each other!!!
