Ive been away on buisness over the last few weeks but I have been following the heated discussions on outboard oil selection, to use or not to use VRO...........ect. Well.......being the kind of guy that likes to keep a low profile Ive pretty much stayed away from all of this. I work in the predictive maintenance field and have for over 20 years........Infrared Thermography, Oil Analysis, Ultrasonic Testing.........things like that. I like to think that I take care of my boat pretty well.........."at least I try"! I have a 92 Evinrude 150......."knock on wood"...it runs great......its had a steady diet of Evinrude or Pennzoil oil through out its life.......along with lots of tender loving care! My VRO is hooked up and at this point I have no plans for it ever not to be. Hmmmmmmmmm.............I think Im going to go fishin today guys..........I suggest yall do the same.............have a great one !!!!

Re: Another oil posting!

Good Morning Bigfun!

Most of the lubricants that I work with are used in high speed bearing applications.......rotoary screw compressors, turbine oils.............and some gearlube appications. Im in no way a lubricant expert or a chemist, I mainly deal with wear particale analysis. As for my outboard oil selection.......Im no different than most people in the fact that Im not made of money. I purchase the best oil that I can afford. From my experiance its the care that you give your engine in conjunction with the products that you use that makes the differance. I can pass this along for whatever its worth.........90% of the lubricants that I use in everything I own are synthetic..........and have been for years! Oh.............by the way you can learn a lot about whats going on with your outboard by running it in the driveway and viewing it using thermal imaging. I know that this isnt something that everyone has laying around in the garage, but by obtaining a thermal image signature of your engine at normal running temperatures it helps to diagnose problems from time to time. Take care all........the fishing is good!!
