... just bought an old rig - boat and motor. Motor is an evinrude Angler serial # 5702AE01183. Seems to run good on test stand. Any info. on proper oil fuel mix, lower gear lube oil, and other points of care and feeding will be much appreciated.

... many thanks Bubbakat. Appreciate the advice. And, judging by the volume of postings and the prompt relies this is a very popular site. The depth of knowledge, especially on older engines is remarkable.

Best,

Cactuscoyote

Re: Another old Evinrude!

The Angler was for all intents, a 6hp powerhead on a 4hp lower unit. If it were mine, I'd richen up the oil a hair - maybe 40:1. It has bronze bearings on the crank mains, but has needles on the crank pins.

When you ran it on the stand, did you have the unit submerged in water? Might be a good idea to replace the impeller as a matter of course. It's VERY simple to do on that motor, and the impeller itself should run you about $15.00. Still wouldn't hurt to find a manual for your motor (see bottom of iBoats page).

They're good running little motors and with proper maintenance and care will continue to give good service...
- Scott
