I recently bought a used 2000 Mercury 15hp 4 stroke outboard motor. I bought a gas tank, hose and connection fittings at Walmart. Today, when I started it, it ran for a couple of seconds and died. Pulled on the rope several times but it didn't start but then I noticed that there was gas dripping from the carb. I let the motor sit for a couple of hours then disconnected the fuel line from the motor, pulled the rope and motor started up fine and ran great then I shut it down. Tomorrow I'll try to start it without the fuel line connected then I'll connect the line and try again to see if gas will leak again.
I'm wondering what caused the carb leak? But when I disconnected the fuel line, the leak was no longer there. Maybe too much fuel pressure in the line?
