My father in law just bought a 8 hp yamaha 2 stroke. I havn't seen it yet, but he figures it must be an older one because it says to mix the oil 25:1. He knew I frequented these boards and he asked me to help him figure out the year. He gave me some numbers over the phone. They are 8SK 6G1S and 014 463. I hope this helps......thats how he read the numbers out to me, I'm not sure where the spaces actually go, or if the 1 is an I, or the S a 5. Thanx for reading

According to Yamaha's website, It's an '85. I have an 85, but it's a non-domesitc model (8CM). It's a great little motor. I question the 25:1 mix though. Mine's 100:1, and the mixture's indicated right on the front of the motor, where the fuel line plugs in.

Be prepared to have parts ordered, unless your local dealer keeps his stock up....

My yamaha manual says that
8=8hp
S=15" shaft
K=1985

It also says that 8hp from 1984-1996 run 100:1
