Has anyone here ever tried to purchase Resin from a boat builder? Living in NC there are a number of builders around and I was wondering if they would sell some of their resin to me. I'm sure they get them in 55 gallon drums no?

I have a local repair shop here that says he will sell it to me for $40.00 a gail, I provide the container. Little to high for me, but maybe a larger scale builder would be cheaper. Ask, all they can do is say no.

That's what I was thinking. I figure I will give a few of them a call....even the builder of my boat and see. I was just curious if anyone has done it and the results. I agree that $40 a gallon is not a good deal. I can get it cheaper in the store.

The resin you buy off the shelf at a store is likely to have wax in it, and be old stock. Either is bad enough, both is worse..............

After adding hazmat shipping and the wait for delivery from US Comps or other online vendor, IMO, $40/gal doesn't sound too high, just a premium. Is the premium worth it to not have to wait a couple days or a week to get resin from US Comps?

Of course, IUPapa got the great hookup price from Gus's supplier in Florida. If you can pick it up locally for less then $40, that'd be best.

Smaller shops may sell you some, but the bigger the shop the less likely they would be to sell anything to a person off the street.

The liability of selling a hazardous material to a private party by a company not set up to do retail sales of this type of product would be too high. Some manufactures are set up to do it though, others may refer you to a third party supplier set up to sell gel coat and other things to owners of their brand of boat..

I buy mine from a local boat builder and if you supply your own 5 gallon pails they sell it for $20 a gallon.. 40 is way too high IMHO.
