Re: Another Post about possible coupler failure?

There is a zinc plate on the drive between the stern and the drive... is this what you see?

Yes, and what is that all about? Zinc, I could understand maybe it is used to stop electrolysis in salt, or brackish water? but I don't see why you need it? I don't know what else it does, I've never seen anything like it before on an I/O or outboard. Maybe because I'm "old school", and someone with knowledge of it here can chime in, & explain it's use?

This is my first I/O... I know the unit is as delivered... but I don't know if the plate is OEM or Dealer installed... here's a close-up and I just verified its attached to the case...

The Dealer didn't mention anything about it yesterday...

My prop also has several impression on the leading edges from when they removed it and put it back on... didn't have any before taking it in... you can see one as the edge "bright spot" in the close-up picture.

OFF TOPIC... my boat with 30 hours on the hobbs meter now shows almost 60 hours... Dealer left the key on for 29 hours

Bummer! Sorry, but not the end of the world.
All else looks like showroom condition! I still think it was some debri you happened to pick up in the water that played havoc with your prop, & drive, at the time

wow, so are sad about the hourmeter!
doubled your usage!

i've run a lot worse looking prop than that
without major problems, maybe you got into
some heavy weeds or something like earlier
mentioned.

Next time you are out, do the nail polish trick on your prop AND your coupler/driveshaft.. that way, if it slips, you can easily diagnose if the prop hub or engine coupler slipped..

the zinc plate is part of a standard anode kit, mainly used as additional protection when running in salt water
