Another puter ?

Ok, want to use my old laptop as picture storage only so I can take it around to family members that do not have computer service so they can see pictures of family.<br /><br />Now my question is, how can I get rid of a lot of the garbage that is on it now so to free up some space?<br /><br />Lot's of stuff on it that I don't use anymore and just collecting dust so to speak.<br /><br />It is running WinMe.<br />Thanks<br />Oh yea, can I burn pictures to CDs?

I can burn music to cd just did not know if I could burn pics also.

Surely can. It's called burning a Data CD. I keep all my pics on CD, just in case. Great way to back up almost anything...

Pictures don't take a lot a room I'll bet you have enough room for at least a 1,000 pictures.<br /><br />As bad as Windows ME can be I would leave it alone if it's working for you now.<br /><br />Good Luck.

The easiest way to clean it off is to go to the add/remove programs and uninstall all the programs that are not needed and go delete everything in "my documents" that you don't want.

Keep your operating system, keep a good phot program and make sure you keep the CD burning software programs!!!<br /><br />You can stor an incedible amount of photos depending on the photo size.

Yea, I don't use this laptop anymore and thought I could put it to some good use.<br />Lot's of my family don't have no computers and thought this would be a good way to show other family members at reunion times and such.<br /><br />Thanks.

If you burn cds on win ME you might not be able to read them on an XP machine. Especially if you use adaptec cd creator. Win ME is a dos based operating system and XP is not. I had almost 20 cds that I had to trash after I went to XP on this computer.

My brilliant grandson says that you should be able to read CDs created in any Windows operating system in XP. He suggests that NERO would probably work better than Easy CD Creator but you would first have to remove Easy CD Creator. Be sure to run the disk cleanup utility on a regular basis. An if you are on the Internet, run spyware scans regularly and disk defragmenter. I am also reminded that if you upgraded to ME, to be sure that you had adequate sytem resources to run it - at LEAST a Pentium 3 with 128 megabytes of RAM (256 recommended). There are other things that knowledgeable users can do to speed things up - if they know what they are doing.

I am not burning on Me, will be burning on XP.<br />Also I use Kodak Easy Share for my pic program.<br />Have music match as my music burning program.<br /><br />The laptop will not be on the internet, just a portable way of showing pictures either stored onboard or off a cd.

First of all I would get rid of ME...find out if your lappie will take XP...min RAM 256mb...HDD min 10GB..XP will use about 4GB of that...backup all of your photos onto CD....then load Photo Story 3 for windows, its free...its a fun way of showing photos or just use XP's slide show/screen saver.

I would definately get rid of ME. That OS is horrible. XP will run pretty pokey with only 256 megs of Ram though.

Yea, I have had no problem with it when I did use it.<br />It always booted up and worked just fine.<br />I think I will just remove a bunch of stuff off it and use it like it is.<br />Load my kodak easy share on it and get-er-done.

2K is the NT work horse...XP has all the bell's and whistles...more for what you want to do.

Nero is a better program than Easy CD creator..<br />I have used both and Nero is much better.

ME is fine for what you are doing Les. Don't mess with it if it is working fine. Do the Add/Delete as vipzach said, and you will be fine.<br /><br />As for burning a CD on ME and it not working on XP, that is only true if you burn it as a "drive," instead of as a disk.<br /><br />You are on to a good plan with the laptop.
