I have a used Evinrude 2.5. It has a manual setting fo rthe mixture on the front of the motor.

What is the best way to set it?

If I recall right, the mixture is set right when the engin reaches the fastest RPM at a given throttle setting.

Is that right?

if it is, you set that by getting the engine to run at a nice idle throttle but when you increase throtle it should not bog down.

TD...the mixture screw is for low end idle. High end is a fixed jet. To set, run the engine full throttle till warm. Back the throttle down untill throttle plate is closed. Set idle screw for best idle. Then back out about 1/4 turn. This will keep it from running to lean. If unsure of where to start, run screw in until it GENTLY seats. Back out one and a quarter turn or so. Best to do procedure on the water with boat unrestrained.
