I Just bought a 17' 1972 Sea Ray from a guy down the street from me. This boat is in Delaware and is registered in delaware until 08 to the guy i bought it from. Now with the boat came the blue registration card which is good until 08. The card has the HIN NO., The DL. number, which is on the side of the boat, and the name and address of the guy that i bought the boat from. Also i have the paper copy of the registration. My question is will i have to just take the Paperwork that I have to the department of natural recources? And if i have to make up a bill of sale to be noterized how do i word it and what needs to be included on the bill of sale. There is no cost guard data plate on the boat that i can find. The Guy i bought the boat from told me that whatever we have to do to transfur the boat to my name he will go with me, as in go to a notery with me or whatever. I have a title for the trailer so i dont imaging toat being a problem. A whyle back i bought a boat and trailer with nothing but a hand written bill of sale from NJ. I took the trailer to DMV and 1 wedsnesday of the month the police are there and they rum vins from trailers with no titles and if not stolen they grind the vin off and stamp on a new one.

Re: Another registration Question

In most states, the DMV uses a specific Bill of Sale form, and insists on it. You can get one at your local DMV office, or, in many states, download one from their website and print it out.

If your state's DMV has its own Bill of Sale form, I strongly suggest you use that, rather than make one up. It might save you from doing it twice.

Re: Another registration Question

Well here in delaware boat registration is done through the department of natural recourses. I cant ever remembering titling a boat here not sure if thats required or not. I do not have a title fot the boat and i dont know if thats going to be a problem. I have a jon/bass boat that i bought from my uncle a few years back and all i did was get a hand written bill of sale noterized and took it to department of natural recourses and they issued me a number, registration sticker to put on the boat, a blue card with the registration number and name and address, and a paper copy of the registration. I have renewed that 2 times since ive had the boat and all i do is take the blue card to them to renew that.

Re: Another registration Question

Wait i think i found it. Here http://www.fw.delaware.gov/NR/rdonl...7-B06D79A2AFCA/0/D19701DEBoatRegistration.pdf . So i think all i have to do is show up there with myself and the previous owner both of us with ID with the registration card and paper (since the boat is currently registered) and then pay the $3.45 to transfer with current registration card. If this looks right to you guys let me know. Thank you so much for any help!!!
