Alright this is supppose to be an interview but no one knows this stuff at my house so here it goes.. and if you have any questions to add or details anything will help this is going to be a research project in the end.. thanks guys

1. When was the first boat built?
2. How have boats developed over the years?
3. How have the building materials developed?
4. How have the engines/engine sizes and technologies with engines developed?
5. Factors in boat sizes.. how have sizes changed the way their built?
6. And then just boat accesories.. what things have been integrated into the boats over the years?

again if you guys can think of more good questions that'll help too..

Re: Another school project

actually....the first question is a loaded one....

boats have been used for a bazillion years.....a guy by the name of noah built a really big one, (he was transporting livestock) :D but even his wasnt the first.

if you mean fiberglass boat....it was made post war and shown at the new york boat show in the late fifties....it was a real step foward in boat building teqneichs....it allowed the average guy to own one as opposed to it being limeted to the rich and fameous...or a work vessel.....from that day foward....the craze started.

hmmmmm come to think of it.....with the price of gas now days...you allmost need to be rich..we may have come full circle

Not sure what kind / level of class this is for, but I suggest you narrow the scope considerably -- unless you want to write a mini-library yourself.

For the first boats, you'd have to look at what pre-literate societies use. Even an Amazon basin dugout canoe is relatively advanced compared to floting across a stream on a log. How far back do you want to go for 'first'?

Construction... let's see... dugout, bark, hide, rafts lashed together (Kon-Tiki anyone?)

Engines were only introduced in the early 1800's with Mr Fulton.

I'd suggest you narrow the scope considerably.

A little backround on your class and/or project might be helpful. You could do something as defined as evolution of fiberglass hulls in boating (why is there various hull designs) or pick a period in time and discuss boating - did the short supply of metal during world war II lead to the development of fiberglass boats? Heck, you could even look into the benefits of welded v. riveted aluminum hulls or discuss fiberglass v. aluminum v. wood.

Let us know where you are going with this and we will help get you there!

Re: Another school project

i like the evolution of fiberglass. and the fiberglas vs aluminum vs wood ideas.. its a basic english class freshman year but all of us in it are in construction management

its a research journal.. i need to get sources and all that junk but the first thing was to do a memo of the topic . than an interview of someone that knows about my subject. but i can take all your info and put it into one interview set up in a way

if that makes sense.

interview of someone that knows about my subject

There may just be a couple members who were around during WWII, or even when the ark was built . . . :D

Sounds like you are coming up with a thesis statement for a short informative essay, backed by at least one outside source. Decide upon your topic, form a strong, cohesive statement and come up with the questions you would like to ask.

Is this supposed to be from a construction view, or is that merely coincidental?
