Need to step up to a larger boat, our current 18 footer isnt cutting it on a large lake and want something a little safer for my 2yr old and the wife who has a bad back, so need a smoother ride...

Found a 2000 Ebbtide Mystique 23 footer for sale (open bow). Equipped with a 5.7 Merc carbed engine, dual axel trailer, all covers, etc. The owner doesnt know the exact hours. He's asking 11k.

I have only seen pics, and it looks mint. Owner also has all service records that show all the annual maintenance. Boat was slipped during the season, stored covered during winter. Its an hour away, so before I take a drive and get a survery, had a few questions was hoping to get some input on...

-Is the 5.7 going to be underpowered? Mainly just looking to cruise, but wouldnt will probably be pulling tubes around soon enough

-Because it doesnt have an hour meter, would that make you run away? Owner says he babied it and would "estimate" 200-300 hrs.

-Are Ebbtide boats bulit well? Looking for info regarding what the floor is made of, quality of vinyl, build quality, etc. But cant find much.

Overall, it would fit my needs and price seems good. But as always, there are always a lot of good opinions to be had here....thanks.

Re: Another "should I buy this boat" question

1. Not sure how much that boat weighs, but I had a 23' Monterey with that engine and that was a heavy boat, engine worked great. What drive does it have, should be a B3, if so you will definitely be fine.

2. Get a survey, even an hour meter does not reveal everything.

3. Overall, I would say Ebb Tides are well made boats, can't comment on the specifics you are looking for, but I do know a few people who have them and they are quite happy.

4. Price seems pretty fair.

I'll find out the type of drive tomorrow. are their liabilities with an alpha with this sized boat?

I would never have a boat that size with an alpha drive, just not built sturdy enough for the weight or horsepower. I know they have built boats this size in the past with alpha's but, but I don't think anyone is doing it today.

Sounds like a lot of boat for the money to me.

thanks for the replies. Yes i think it sounds promising, which is why i think the 1.5 hr drive is worth it to take a look. Its hard to find much info on the year / model boat. ie does it have a fiberglass floor, etc...

That is a heavy boat almost 4200lbs dry weight.

Check to see if he is the original owner. Ebbtides have a 50 year hull and stringer warrenty. It is transferable once.:D
