Looking good good to see another Tincanner with some fab skills with metal :D. I also understand other things getting in the way of working on the boat everytime I turn around there is a honeydo to do :D.

Nice job! Wish I could weld. Maybe I'll get the neighbor to teach me.

Looking good! I like the new rollers!!

I need to weld some side bunks on my trailer...

I like the snaptraxx stuff...
Maybe to high tech for my ole rig though...

I want to put a season or two on my rollers before I replace them too...

The roller mount looks amazing and that boat also look like a great boat for just about anything you want to do on the lake!

I'm impressed...if you've got those kind of metalworking skills you're trailer is gonna be a real piece of work...looks good:D

Are you gonna strengthen the splashguards to allow you to stand on them? Mine are reinforced and hold my 210lbs with ease and make things convenient to get in and out of the boat...I'd recommend it.

The trailer for my 16' SS is all rollers too, haven't had the chance to really check it out though since I've been on the water checking out the boat whenever it's off the trailer:)

Keep up the great work and let me know if you need pics of anything since I've got the same rig.

Hey how is the SS looking motor?

I know you warned us that it will be a slow mover and all...but I'm sure you've done some work right?

I haven't been doing much on my 16' SS either lately, still working on the teardown.

Thought it was time for an update. I havn't done much this winter. I have a furnace in the garage, but during the dead of winter, it takes a lot to get the garage warm. I'm going to dedicate Sunday's from now on to work on the boat.
I did however, score a new(to me) outboard off Craigslist, this weekend. 5 hours(one way) away in Minnesota. It's a 2000MY Yamaha F50(4 stroke), it was sold new in 2002. It's a tiller model, so I will have to convert, anybody want to buy a tiller conversion? I spent today building a mobile stand for it. It got covered in road salt on the ride back, so next weekend, I will spend cleaning it. It looks and sounds really good, can't wait until it's time to hang this on the transom. I think it will motivate me more to work on the boat.

That is a nice motor but i don't think my wife will let me buy one like it. Was going to sell my motorcycle to have funds to buy one and she won't let me.

Funny you should say that Douglas. I had to promise my wife I would sell my motorcycle to get her to let me buy this outboard. And good news(fingers crossed) I think I sold the motorcycle yesterday. If the deal goes through, I"ll get $1250 dollars more than I paid for the outboard. Finally some cash to get this project moving!

Maybe try convincing your wife that she would worry about you less out on the boat rather than on the motorcycle where some texting teenager can smear you all over the road. Worked for me.:D

OK, made some progress this weekend. First off, I detailed the motor, had to get that road salt off. I think it looks good!

Next I broke out the Mig welder and got busy,

I got all the keel rollers installed. It took awhile to get them all centered and on the same plane, the trailer crossmembers are NOT on the same plane.

So then, of course, I had to drop the boat down on the rollers to see where it was going to ride. I was real happy, because it's riding LOW. So low that it is going to be a little tough to set the height of the bunks, there isn't much room in there, but I'll figure it out.

Oh yeah, when I had the boat up real high, I looked at the underside. I never noticed before that evidently the boat had spent time on a roller trailer. There are small indentations at each of the black marks where the rollers were. I never did like those roller trailers.

I prefer the bunks as well. Nice trailer work. I could drive down as it's just as easy to do two trailers while you are in that frame of mind. :)

Launching and retrieving is going to be a breeze with it as low slung as it is. Looks great. I have a feeling you'll be moving that axle back a good bit.

I was thinking the same thing EZ. I was going to ask the question on my next post. I have to make a really good guess as to where to put it, because I am going to weld steps aft of the fenders. The outboard weighs about 240lbs, I will have the starter battery in the stern and two trolling batteries in the bow.

Well her friends at work ride to, as most of mine sold theres and she likes riding on the back of it. Last weekend went on a poker run , weather like 45 degrees must be getting old cause i froze the whole time she had a blast though. grant you i don't wear a helmet and i hate windshields on bikes ,but might have found a 65 hp merc turn key motor for cheap with controls let you know how it turns out:cool:

Very nice work Motor. I can see you are picky about your toys, ( thats a good thing). I have a roller trailer too and its got to go. It did leave divits on the bottom of my boat too but I just hate how high the boat rides/sits on the darn thing. I am going to bunks and a lower trailer for ease of launching and handling on the road. Besides, when I sell the galvanized roller trailer I will have more play money for the boat, ( I have another trailer at a friends for my boat):)

Re: Another STARCRAFT resto; '72 Starcraft SS 16ft

Been doing some fabricating on the trailer. I whipped up these bunk mounts. I'm going to do 2x6's on their side.

001-4.jpg

Installed the bunks and set the boat down. Seems my measurements where a little off:mad:. There is about 3/8 of an inch gap between the keel and the rollers. I wanted them to be touching with the boat centered. So I broke out the router and recessed the mounting points.

002-3.jpg

I then reinstalled the bunks and tried it again, got the gap down to less than 1/4", I'll have to go a little deeper on the recesses.
