My dad just bought a 1980 Silverline 22VC. It's in pretty good shape, but the steering seems to get stuck if you try to turn it to port. It'll move free going starboard, but will only go back to center, will not turn to port. I has a Mercruiser 228 and it has power steering. I disconnected the cable at the motor end, but can't figure out how to get it off at the helm. It seems to be a rack type(everything is enclosed in a long rectangular box type thing). How do I get the cable out? I really didn't think this would be the hard part. I replaced the gimbal bearing and the bellows, bellows are tough also.

Re: Another steering question.

you take the rack off the helm. rack systems are a pita, replace complete system with a rotary system.
