Re: Another Storm coming our way

We are now in a level 3 emergency!!!!!!That means stay home unless it is an emergency. I haven't seen it like this since 78. BLIZZARD CONDITIONS... Wife woke me up to take her to work. IT AINT HAPPINING The snow in my drive is 14 to 16" deep. I'd have more luck taking her to work in the bucket truck, but it hasn't been moved for about 8 weeks. The hospital told my wife not to even try to make it in. Besides with being in level 3,,,,I'm not taking the chance.

I sure wish I could invite that guy named Al over for a visit. I need some firewood cut and split!

I remember the blizzard of 78 SS,I lived in Ohio back then.We had no school for 2 weeks. All you could see of our house was the TV antenna on the roof.
It took 2 days to dig out of our back door of the house. The National Guard was dropping us supplies by helicopter....What a mess!
Hang in there!!;)

I don't think this one is going to last as long, its surposed (at least they say?) to get above freezing monday, then the 50's by next weekend. However their prediction for 5 days in advance stinks. February 25th, the weather prediction for this past week was highs of 30 to 40, lows 15 to 25. Monday was 48 - Tuesday was 25/10 - Wednesday was 30* freezing rain for 14 hours then snow at night - Thursday 40 melted all snow and ice - Fri (which their forcast 45) Started snowing at 9am and hasn't let up. The snow is drifted up onto my front door. Never have I witnessed that at this house. Snow is up to the bumper on my wifes Explorer. I hope this doesn't prolong launch schedule......

I just came in from digging out a spot for my dog to do his business. I didn't think that it was that deep until I started digging. Between 12" and 14" right now. Visability right now is about 100 yards...........I don't believe any forcast unless it is about 48 hours in advance, then I only put about 60% accuracy with that...........SS

Re: Another Storm (Upgraded to BLIZZARD)

Was out in it from midnight till 4 this am.
Started off as rain, then freezing rain and then snow on top of that.
Looks like about 4 to 6 is all we will get. The snow has stopped for now.

My Mom lives about 25 miles away from you SS. She sent me some pictures.
I too remember the Blizzard of '78. This one may meet "blizzard" standards, but it don't hold a candle to that one. :)
Stay warm and wait her out. Then be careful while digging out, it is gonna be a heavy wet snow (I am betting). You don't want to tear up that new knee do ya??

We are up in the 40's up here in AK, we got almost an inch of snow last night but it has been mostly rain and melting snow.

I wish we had gotten your snow. :(

Re: Another Storm (Upgraded to BLIZZARD)

Been out doing a bit of shoveling. Doing about 10 min at a time then rest 20. Finally got the service van and explored dug out. Started up the snow blower. Its little but doing the job. The snow measures on average in my drive 18". Top of the snow blower is 16" When I'm pushing it, the chute looks like a snorkle sticking out of the snow. Sucker keeps dying on my after 15 min. Got gas, but it seems to be starving for it. Probably from mud from the flood we had back in August.

At the edge of the storm now. The snow comes and goes in spurts. They say there is still more to come until midnight........SS

Its a 5hp Techumseh. I'm thinking maybe some water in the gas that is freezing in a passage way. When it sits in the garage for half an hour, it starts right up and will run for about 15 min then quits. Sometimes I can put the choke all the way on at it will run. Sometimes pushing the primer bulg will keep it running. There is a bleeder on the bottom of the bowl of the carb, pure gar runs out. Checked spark and even changed plugs,,no good. I have some dry gas that I'm going to put into it. Hopefully that will help. I'm glad it has electric start :D BTW, no it isn't running hot, no oil saftey either. Bout ready to go back to the shovel.........SS

TD, I'd rather shovel the snow than to deal with the tornado's.

I too remember the blizzard of 78. Was living in West Jefferson, Ohio (just west of Columbus).
Was one heck of a storm. Couldn't get my car to crank over. Opened the hood and snow packed in all around the engine :D

Learned a valuable lesson from that too. Once you clear MOST of the snow and are able to get it started, DO NOT stand in line of the fan, as some chunk of snow comes loose from somewere, it will hit the fan and will be a snow ball that smacks you dead in the face. Trust me.

I was stuck at the 76 truck stop in Youngstown, Oh then.
State police put everyone off the road.
Truck stop ran out of food so we started unloading supplies from our trucks to feed everyone.
