Brakes are alway nice but I pull the same load without trailer brakes with the 2011 screw F150 truck and it stops the load great.
But can you stop as fast as that Honda Accord when it switches lanes and slams on the brakes in front of you?
Anecdotal evidence is usually a poor choice to base these types of decisions on.
I vote for brakes.
Am I good pulling a 21' boat with a 2012 ford F150 super crew 4wd truck, WITHOUT trailer brakes? mostly flat land
I always like to phrase it a bit differently by saying to myself, "If my son/daughter and/or grandmother were in the SmartCar in front of me, would I have wished that I'd put brakes on the trailer?"Am I good pulling a 21' boat with a 2012 ford F150 super crew 4wd truck, WITHOUT trailer brakes? mostly flat land

Absolutely. Don't think about what you can do, but what you should do with respect to other people's lives.
in most states brakes would be required and in ALL states they would be a VERY good idea.
Get the breaks. I live in NC. They are required for trailers over 3K. You won't regret it.
