Re: another tilt trim question

Hi all,
My trim/tilt unit presently works PERFECTLY, but my oil is very dirty and needs to be changed. I plan on using what the manual calls out, 5w30. This thread is what I have been looking for but I am having trouble following it. I don,t want to take a chance and burn up my pump motor, or fill the system with air. Can someone please walk me thru this oil change step by step. Thanks in advance.

Re: another tilt trim question

I have never seen a procedure to change the PTT oil. My recommendationwould be to turn the pump upside down and let the old stuff pour out. Now remove the trim cylinders from the motor and remove bleed screws (two on each cylinder). Pump the trim cylinders to get the oil oil out.

Now fill the resevoir and follow the bleeding procedure I outlined in this thread. I am assuming you have the external-pump/resevoir type of PTT unit.

Thanks for your response Cris1956. Just one last question and I think I'm ready to tackle this guy. When you say " remove cylinder " I assumn you mean to take it loose at the bottom mount in order to pump the oil out of the cylinder. Is this correct? Once again thanks for the response and help.

Re: another tilt trim question

To properly bleed the trim cylinders, both ends to be removed from the engine. The up bleed screw is located next to the place where the hoses attach. This must face up to bleed the up hydraulic circuit.
